Johnson Controls recently announced that it has completed the expansion of its German glass fiber separator (AGM) battery plant, making it the world's largest AGM battery production plant.
AGM batteries are mainly used in cars with start-stop technology. With the increasing demand for start-stop technologies, the market demand for AGM batteries has also gradually increased. To this end, Johnson Controls spent 100 million euros to expand its battery plant in Zwichau, Germany.
HolgerJetses, vice president and general manager of Europe, Middle East and Africa at Johnson Controls Power Solutions, said that the demand for start-stop batteries in the coming years will rise rapidly. According to forecast data, 80% of all new cars produced in Europe by 2018 will be equipped with start-stop technologies .
After the expansion, the battery capacity of the Zwickau plant has reached 6.6 million units/year, a three-fold increase compared to the level before the expansion. The total number of employees in the factory also doubled from the previous 200 to 400.
