The new beam control system makes the laser weapon one step further

Northrop. Northrop Grumman recently announced it will help the U.S. Air Force to develop new defensive weapons that can be installed on existing and future fighter jets. In an agreement with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), the company will develop and build a beam control system for the Laser Weapon Demonstration System for the Advanced Technology Demonstration project currently under development at AFRL.

Similar to the equipment developed by Lockheed Martin, the system can be installed in a fighter's pod. As defensive weapons, the main targets of attacks are the incoming missiles, drones and fighters. The company is developing a beam control system that automatically monitors and tracks targets, as well as investigates air conditions and associated effects on the path of the laser beam, enabling precise tracking of the target.
