According to reports, the battery separator has many advantages, such as high flexibility, good mechanical strength, high porosity, excellent electrolyte wetting and adsorption performance, high thermal stability, high temperature resistance, and can maintain its temperature at 700 ° C. Battery separators are the key materials to ensure battery safety and affect battery performance. Currently, commercial lithium-ion battery separators are mainly polyolefin-based organic membranes, but they may cause short-circuiting of batteries, which may cause fire or explosion accidents in severe cases.
The battery assembled by the novel hydroxyapatite ultra-long nanowire-based high temperature battery separator has better electrochemical performance, cycle stability and rate performance than the battery assembled by the polypropylene diaphragm. More importantly, the new battery has excellent thermal stability, can withstand high temperatures, maintains normal operation in a high temperature environment of 150 ° C, and lights a small bulb. It is expected that if the new battery separator is used, and the high temperature resistant electrolyte and electrode material are matched, the operating temperature and safety of the battery can be further greatly improved.
Experts say that this research work is of great significance for greatly improving the operating temperature range of lithium-ion batteries and the safety of lithium-ion batteries.
