Recently, the “Research and Application of Double Membrane Water Treatment Process Technology in Metallurgical Industry Wastewater Treatment†project of Handan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. passed the appraisal of scientific and technological achievements in Hebei Province, and was appraised by a team of 11 experts including the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Wang Guodong and other experts. It is recognized as having an international advanced level.
Handan Iron and Steel is the first steel company in China to adopt the “double membrane method†water treatment process. The "double membrane method" process is a very advanced water treatment technology in the world. It adopts the "ultrafiltration + reverse osmosis" process. The ultrafiltration process has an accuracy of 0.04 micron and can filter out impurities such as colloids and bacteria. The "reverse osmosis" process can substantially eliminate the soluble salts that have not been filtered by the "ultrafiltration" technology. In March 2005, Handan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. applied the double membrane method to the cold rolling mill for the first time and gradually promoted it throughout the company.
The project “Study and Application of Double Membrane Water Treatment Process Technology in Metallurgical Industry Wastewater Treatment†has carried out five major innovations. First, the control parameters of the ultrafiltration system were optimized, and the frequent standby problem of the ultrafiltration system was successfully solved, which ensured the normal operation of the ultrafiltration system. Secondly, in the process of treating metallurgical industrial wastewater, the ultrafiltration pretreatment system adopts the combined application of powder activated carbon and lime milk to ensure that the ultrafiltration effluent water quality meets the requirements of reverse osmosis. The third is to independently design, develop and implement a combination of oxidative bactericide and non-oxidative in reverse osmosis pretreatment, which effectively ensures the bactericidal effect. The fourth is to optimize the ratio of the medicament, eliminate the fouling of the filter element of the security filter, and prolong the chemical cleaning cycle of reverse osmosis. The fifth is to adjust the PH value of the water source to effectively improve the water quality of the reverse osmosis water production and meet the technical requirements.
Compared with 2005, the output of Handan Iron and Steel (headquarters) steel increased by 560,000 tons in 2006, an increase of 9.6%, while the new water consumption decreased by 12 million tons, and the new water consumption per ton of steel decreased from 6.09m3 in 2005 to 4.89 m3.
