Reuters reported that US judges dismissed consumer lawsuits against Google on Saturday, saying it did not cause "specific damage," after Google was accused of claiming that the search engine's photo sharing and storage services infringed consumer privacy.
Chicago District Judge Edmond Chang approved Google’s summary judgment motion, stating that the court lacked “subject jurisdiction because the plaintiff did not receive specific harmâ€.
The lawsuit was filed in March 2016, alleging that Apple's Google violated Illinois law, which uses facial recognition software to collect and store biometric data from people's photos through its Google Photo Service without permission. .
According to court documents, the plaintiff sought a total of more than $5 million in compensation for the “hundreds of thousands†of affected state residents.
Court documents show that the plaintiff has demanded that the court compensate $5,000 for each case of a deliberate violation of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, or $1,000 for each negligent infringement case.
