Danaher Motion introduces the new Dover MAB-100 non-contact linear motor platform

The platform delivers high-precision, friction-free motion in demanding, high-performance applications

June 17, 2008 - Danaher Motion, the world's leading provider of motion control solutions, today introduced the Dover MAB-100 linear motor platform. The compact MAB-100 linear motor platform (63.5 mm high x 88.9 mm wide x 266.7 mm long) features a unique air bearing guide that provides extremely precise linear motion with no friction at all, up to 100 strokes Mm. The product also features a non-contact design that improves machine performance, reduces total cost of ownership and maintenance, and reduces downtime compared to contact motor platforms.

The MAB-100 linear motor platform has no circulating bearings and anti-creep structure, so the resulting motion defects such as friction, temperature rise, and debris are completely eliminated. Otherwise, these motion defects will have a very negative impact on the linear motor platform and overall machine performance. In addition, the MAB-100 is driven by a non-contact brushless servo motor and features a unique dynamic magnetic design. This design eliminates the cables of the mobile motor, which makes wiring easier and improves cable reliability. Overall, the benefits of the MAB-100 include reduced part count, weight reduction, smaller trajectories, and ease of integration into equipment manufacturers and end-user equipment.

Position feedback is provided by a linear optical encoder with a maximum resolution of 5 nm. The encoder includes a pilot signal that enables accurate position recording after power up. The read head is mounted on a fixed base without the use of any moving cables. A built-in, adjustable limit switch ends the stroke sensing and the rubber stopper provides extra protection.

The MAB-100 also features built-in high-performance drivers and controls with an overall length increase of only 58 mm. This model (MAB-100/HRC) requires only a 24 VDC external power supply and an RS-232 series communication link to provide a fully integrated “smart workbench”. The MAB-100/HRC can operate as a master slave on the serial interface or can be programmed to run complex motion sequences automatically as a stand-alone device. The MAB-100/HRC models feature 4096X encoder interpolation for 5 nanometer resolution.

The MAB-100 linear motor platform has a load of 2.5 kg with an accuracy of 1 micron and a bidirectional repeatability of less than 0.03 micron. Maintain slope and yaw within ±7 uradians (±1.5 arc seconds) with flatness and straightness below ±200 nm. Resolution ranges from 5 microns to 5 mm.
