London Mayor Boris Johnson recently said that London plans to launch an electric vehicle charging network in the spring of 2011.
By 2013, the charging network will provide 1,300 public charging points, and members can use the charging network to charge electric vehicles for an annual fee of no more than 100 pounds (about 160 US dollars).
British Transport Minister Philippe Hammond said: "For many people, the car is a necessity, not a luxury. All, we hope to build London into a world pioneer in ultra-low emission vehicles."
London has 17,000 pure electric and hybrid vehicles, which account for 23.5% of the total number of similar vehicles in the UK. In addition, the Financial Times recently reported that Mayor Johnson has reduced the electric car project budget from the previous 20 million pounds to 7 million pounds, and hopes that the company will sponsor the remaining funds.
