Nitrile rubber: emphasis on high-end source innovation

Although the total output of acrylonitrile-butadiene-acrylonitrile-butadiene-acrylonitrile-butadiene-acrylonitrile-butadiene-acrylonitrile-butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber is not large, it has a wide variety of products and is widely used. In recent years, the global consumer demand for nitrile rubber has grown slowly. The domestic nitrile rubber plant has a small scale, raw material unit consumption and high energy consumption, the output can not meet market demand, imports are still the main way to balance the market gap.

The lowest volume of application among the five major rubber types

The number of patent applications for nitrile rubber is one order of magnitude lower than that of other types of rubber. When the maximum number of applications is only 60, the number of applications for other types of rubber is also less than 100. From the perspective of development trends, the number of patent applications for nitrile butadiene rubber in China has increased since 2000, and the number of patent applications for nitrile butadiene rubber in foreign countries has shown a downward trend since 2000.

Nitrile rubber Chinese patent applicants mainly include PetroChina, Bayer and LANXESS, while foreign patent applicants are monopolized by Japanese companies. CNPC has certain advantages in the development of new nitrile rubber products. PetroChina Lanzhou Petrochemical Company is very active in the research and development of nitrile rubber. It has built a 200 tonne/year powder nitrile rubber pilot plant. The product can replace imported powder nitrile rubber; impregnated carboxylated nitrile rubber latex has been On the market; high saturation hydrogenated nitrile rubber has also been successfully developed; liquid end hydroxyl nitrile rubber has been mass produced. At present, the main producers of nitrile rubber are Germany, Japan and South Korea. The main applicants for foreign patents include Japan NOK Seals Co., Ltd., Huangbin Rubber Co., Ltd., Sumitomo Rubber Industries Co., Ltd., Toyo Tire & Rubber Co., Ltd., Japan Jon Weng, and Japan Synthetic Rubber Co., Ltd.

Domestic research randomness strong foreign results hot focus

The foreign nitrile rubber patents mainly involve nitrile/resin blends. The domestic nitrile rubber patented technologies mainly focus on the preparation technology of nitrile rubber, hydrogenated nitrile rubber, powder nitrile rubber or liquid nitrile rubber for oil or seals (C08F236), and there is no nitrile rubber core technology.

The patented technology of nitrile rubber in foreign countries mainly involves the application of nitrile rubber (C08L23), and the application rate accounts for 33%. Among them, Japanese NOK has the largest number of applications, mainly involving nitrile rubber or hydrogenated nitrile rubber and PVC; Sumitomo Rubber Industry Co., Ltd. mainly develops a mixture of nitrile rubber and phenolic resin; Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. uses pneumatic tires. The patented rubber composition (C08L21) was the main technology, and the nitrile rubber polymerization technology (C08F236) was only involved in Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.

The development trend of nitrile rubber technology at home and abroad is also different. The number of applications for domestic nitrile rubber processing and application technology patents (C08L) has been on an upward trend since 2003, and foreign countries have experienced a sharp decline since the peak of one application in 2000. The research on domestic nitrile rubber polymerization (C08F) technology is relatively random and there is no obvious development rule. The annual average application amount of nitrile rubber polymerization technology abroad has remained at about five items, and the nitrile rubber polymerization technology mainly focuses on the preparation of carboxylated nitrile rubber and hydrogenation technology of nitrile rubber.

The demand for products is not high in research and development

China's nitrile production capacity is approximately 90,000 tons/year. The patented technology mainly involves powder butyronitrile, liquid nitrile, hydrogenated nitrile and nitrile processing applications.

From the perspective of nitrile rubber demand, the production and demand of powder nitrile rubber, liquid nitrile rubber, and hydrogenated nitrile rubber are not large. In 2008, the domestic market demand for powdered nitriles was around 2,000 tons, and the liquid nitrile rubber production capacity was only 500 tons per year. The world's hydrogenated nitrile production capacity is only 22,000 tons/year, and consumption is only a few thousand tons. The demand for these nitrile rubber varieties is not large at all. Therefore, domestic nitrile rubber intellectual property strategy should adopt source innovation strategy, develop high value-added nitrile rubber products, and strengthen core technology research and development and patent protection.

Modification is one of the important development directions of nitrile rubber. One third of foreign patents are related to nitrile rubber blending and modification technologies. The technology mainly involves mixing nitrile rubber and synthetic resin (such as PVC) to prepare various thermal elastomers. The nitrile rubber enterprises in China need to strengthen the research on blending modification of nitrile rubber to meet the demand of rubber products and expand the application field of nitrile rubber.
