Ren Ge, Key Laboratory of Light Beam Control, Institute of Optics and Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, made a new progress in the research of phase difference technology. The phase space difference technique of laminated space modulation was proposed for the first time. The pupil plane of the imaging system was laminated and scanned through small holes It contains the phase difference image, and then uses the algorithm to extract the aberration of the imaging system and restore the image. This technique has great potential applications in wavefront measurement and image restoration. Relevant results published in the recent IEEE Photonics Technology Letters.

The phase difference technique integrates wavefront measurement and image restoration, and has no specific requirements on the target. It is not only suitable for point targets, but also suitable for expanding targets and has the advantages of simple optical path and non-common-path error, and has become an international Research hot spots. The traditional phase difference technique uses the focal plane and the defocused plane to generate the difference image, requiring that the CCD sampling frequency must meet the Nsweikh sampling laws. For undersampling systems, pixel overlap causes many high-frequency components of a sub-image to be mis-sampled as low-frequency components, greatly affecting the measurement accuracy of the phase difference technique.

This study first proposed the concept of phase modulation in laminated space and extended the phase difference method to undersampling system. The aperture aperture is used to space the large aperture pupil plane so that the acquired sub-images satisfy the sampling law. The holes overlap each other during scanning, the overlapping parts provide the same phase information, and the non-overlapping parts provide the phase difference. Such a group of sub-images scanned by the pinhole stack are all oversampled, and no wrong frequency information will be displayed during the detection of the algorithm, thereby greatly improving the measurement accuracy of the phase difference method for the undersampling system.
