The Fiat Group, one of the top 10 global automobile companies, signed a memorandum of cooperation with relevant parties in Chongqing and plans to build a new light diesel engine production project in Chongqing to build the group’s largest overseas manufacturing base for commercial vehicles and parts.
According to news from the Chongqing Municipal Development and Reform Commission, this light diesel engine production project will be carried out by Fiat Power Technologies, a subsidiary of the group, and plans to invest 1.8 billion yuan to build a new production base with annual output of 100,000 light diesel engines in the northern New District. 70% of products are exported.
Previously, the Fiat Group once reorganized the Chongqing Heavy Duty Truck Group with SAIC Group and jointly invested 4.7 billion yuan to form SAIC Iveco Hongyan Commercial Vehicle Company and SAIC Fiat Powertrain Corporation to jointly produce heavy-duty vehicles and engines. According to the agreement, the first phase of the project is planned to be completed in October this year, forming an annual capacity of 40,000 complete vehicles and 100,000 engines.
